Why us? Things were going very well in the new decade. Healthy economic focus with low gas prices gave organizations the opportunity to extend credit to just about everyone who wanted houses, cars, vacations and more. There were signals as early as 2007 that things were not exactly what everyone thought. In fairly short order, our global economy and our personal and professional lives imploded with crisis on Wall Street and beyond.
It was so quickly paced that dealerships were left with thousands of SUV’s and trucks that sat unwanted. Credit cards had ballooned limits and people were left unbalanced in home and small business equity.
It was a mess by the end of 2008; why me? I speak for a lot of why me’s out there. Of the 3900 individuals on Inside 919, hundreds were pushed from corporate venues to uncertainty, and very quickly.
Although it is 2012, it is still late 2008 in many ways. Recession still exists. The economy is still sluggish. With 10% of income steered to fuel and travel today, it is a slow moving process. Why me?
Here is a game plan for the disrupted.
• Find your Passion: Passion if followed properly is always found near income. What do you wish you had always done?
• Start a company: No matter what it is; an LLC, a partnership, maybe it is a sole proprietor, get it legal and put your plan together.
• Never give up: This one is tough. Feeling sorry for yourself is a natural thing. Just keep positive and try again.
• Align with others: Alliance is good. We need the support of others both personally and professionally every day. Ideas, projects, and relationships come from collective support.
Hang in there and become an “I can” instead of a “why me!”
