It’s November 1st.
For many of us (especially the children) it’s stomach ache day.
I remember sorting through our kids’ candy when they came home from trick-or-treating, to pull out anything that was open, or we considered unsafe. I also remember going through it, after they were asleep, to pull out the candy we wanted – teehee.
Now that our children are grown, and out of the house, we still buy candy for the kids that trick-or-treat. I never know how much to buy, and certainly don’t want to run out. So, we usually have leftovers.
I have learned, as an adult who is health conscious and constantly watching my weight, NOT to buy the candy that I like.
Used to be Jim and I would eat the leftover candy. No, no, no… not the best option.
Now I buy candy that I don’t like (non-chocolate) so that I won’t be tempted to eat it. That really makes it tough to have leftovers that could go to waste.
If you have leftover candy, and don’t want to eat it, here are some tips for getting rid of it…
• Take it to work and let your co-workers eat it. You’ll be very popular.
• Donate it to a non-profit agency .(USO, homeless shelter, food bank, church)
• Find a local dentist that is running a “buy back” program. (My dentist does that!)
• Pitch it. Seems a waste, but it is an option.
If temptation of leftover candy is something you want to avoid, be proactive. You don’t have to count on will-power alone. Get rid of the candy! Find a nice healthy apple to bite into. It may not be exactly what you’re craving, but it does have natural sugar and can satisfy that desire.
