Prior to the 2008 General Election, we received a printed copy of a voter guide in the mail. It opened our eyes.
To summarize, a very concise questionnaire was distributed to all candidates running for office. The voter guide presented their answers. Mainly as YES, NO, or UNDECIDED. Now in 2010, I've learned that The North Carolina Family Policy Council provides this impartial, nonpartisan Election Voter Guide.
If you haven't seen a printed version of this guide, the website is a valuable resource for NC voters: http://ncfamily.org/voterguide2010/
Used in conjunction with a “sample ballot” you can print from the NC Board of Elections website: http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/ you can know exactly whose answers to look for in the voter guide.
I hope this helps you in your search for who’s running, where, and what they stand for.
