We've all been there. The New Year brings renewed enthusiasm to get out and attend more networking events, to grow our business. As time goes on, you get busier and you attend less events. Eventually you have so much work that you skip networking altogether. If you're that busy, why do need to network? Here's why.
I've made that same mistake, while building my first business. We had gotten so busy that we stopped going to events and it cost us, in the long run. When the economy was good, we were booking two trucks, for carpet cleaning, 3-4 weeks out. When things are going good, you forget how things were, before you made it. Well, when the economy took a dip, we were quickly reminded. Carpet cleaning is a luxury for many and is one of those things that people are willing to do without. Had we been more mindful and stayed active with some networking, we would have have more work.
It's impossible to attend every single event, during a busy time, but you can make at least a few. Staying active will ensure that you are top of mind for those you want to do business with. Don't take for granted that you will always be busy.
It's like being a body builder. Getting that big is the hardest part but you still have to work at it to maintain what you have.

Comment by Dhawn Hansen on February 27, 2013 at 1:40pm Hi Fred, Thanks for the timely reminder on the importance of networking. I have been very busy (yet productive) with client projects this week so I missed our Tuesday coffee meeting but I will definitely see you next week! Since I joined Inside 919 and the Apex Chamber you definitely stand out to me as a consistent attendee of networking events! Way to lead by example! Smile, Dhawn
