This can be a stress filled time of year for all of us. But there are silent suffers of strees out there, Caregivers of the elderly, disabled and terminally ill.
Do you know the average caregiver is a woman in her 50's who already has a full time job. At least with a growing healthy child, each day leads to a more independent person..... a sickly loved one, growing older and weaker, leads to more and more care and attention, with no end in sight.
Per Liz Bradley, Communications Strategy Director for the AARP - “This could rise to a major public health risk for these caregivers. They’re depleting their own assets. They’re having their own health issues when they are unsupported and frustrated and feeling alone,” http://www.homewatchcaregivers.com/homewatchnews/12-10-29/Attention... (full article)
The stress they feel now can be much more than one can withstand. Please take notice if someone who cares for a sick loved one and offer to take on some of their duties. Finish posting their Holiday Cards and mail them; cook a meal or dish; offer to sit with the sick loved one so the Caregiver can have a couple hours out of the home.
May we all be blessed by some random acts of kindness this holiday season and into the new year!!
