I am amazed at how often Peeps are mentioned as people get ready for the Easter holiday.
Mass Production: Peeps were a product of the Rodda Candy Company. In 1953 Just Born candy company purchased the Rodda Candy Company. Bob Born of Just Born loved the way the marshmallow chicked looked. In 1954 Bob Born created a machine that would producte large quanities of marshmallow chicks. Bob Born also trademarked the name “Peeps”. The Peeps were created in three colors: pink, white and yellow.
Peeps All Year Long: The Peeps were so successful that Just Born became the largest Marshmallow candy manufacturer world wide. Just Born began creating seasonally manufactured peeps in the 1960s. The Marshmallow Peeps Bunny was introduced in the early 1980’s. In 1995, lavender colored peeps were introduced and blue Peeps were introduced in 1998 just in time for Easter.
New Peeps Flavors: Vanilla Flavored Peeps were produced in 1999, and in 2000 Strawberry Flavored Peeps were introduced. The Chocolate Peep was released in 2002.
Today you can find recipes for Peeps, Longaberger Baskets for Peeps and even a Peeps Fan Club
How About You? Which is your favorite peep? Do you have a favorite “Peep” Recipe?

Comment by Diogenes Ruiz on April 5, 2012 at 3:35pm There's something about that yellow peep, Hmmmm! Nice chewy gueee..... I' m curious as to how people eat them. Do you do a complete peep or a few bites at a time? If you do a few bites, do you start with the head? How long can you keep a peep? Should peeps be part of someone's emergency ration? I have more useless questions, but I'll stop here.
I hope everyone has a very Happy Easter and if you are not Catholic, I hope you take the time to learn about its significance.
Amy - thanks for a fun post.

Comment by Julie Jones on April 5, 2012 at 4:10pm I used to think peeps were great, but now I find them a bit disgusting - I guess I'm growing up...
They're always interesting, though. What an original idea, sugar-coated marshmallow chicks. I suspect they keep as long as twinkies - forever. My favorite colored peep is the original yellow - it still looks like a baby chicken.

Comment by Amy Shair, REMAX Real Estate on April 5, 2012 at 11:37pm Thanks Julie and Diogenes. I think a lot of people bite them in half but they are a bit too sweet for me. But they're so cute!

Comment by Dave Baldwin on April 10, 2012 at 9:58pm I've never been much into marshmallows myself; however, I felt compelled to mention that I grew up less than an hour's drive away from Just Born Candy! (I am originally from the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania).
