Make sure that when you set your goals that they aren’t just wishes. “I want a new car” is not a goal. We all want new cars, but if we are going to actively work towards getting a new car there has to be definition to the goal. The goal has to provide specifics; what kind of car, year, color, make, model, and accessories, along with a time frame to drive you to achieve it.
Goals should be in a form that is past tense and as specific as possible.
Poor goal setting: “I want a new car.”
Good goal setting: I want a Toyota Corolla”
Better goal setting: “I will own A Red, 2014 Toyota Corolla.
Best goal setting:: “I will own a Red 2014 Toyota Corolla before my birthday in May”.
By being specific, and setting a date to have accomplished it by the goal provides you with all the details you need and the drive to achieve it. Now just write it down and think about it daily. Work towards it. Base your decisions on it. And you should get there just fine.
