As business owner, 9 to 5 or days off are a language we don't understand. It seems as if we are always thinking about our business. Most people aren't cut out to handle the responsibilities of running a business. It is important that you make time to do the things that you enjoy, as well.

Here are some things you can do to ensure that you balance yourself.

  1. Hobbies: If you don't have a hobby, get one. Hobbies are a great way to disconnect from your business duties, whether is collecting sports memorabilia, playing golf, taking martial arts or dance lessons. You will also broaden your horizons. Some hobbies can be something you do on your own or with a group. Try to schedule your hobbies on a specific day so that you don't push it aside when you get busy. Hobbies are a great way to relieve stress.
  2. Make a date: plan a weekly outing with your significant other. You could go to lunch or a movie. Each day is a gift. Make sure that you have some quality time to enjoy with the important people in your life, even if it's just with yourself.
  3. Plan some trips: Don't wait until you slow down to do things you enjoy. Pick a day, where you can go and see something new and different. You can go to the zoo with the kids or a friend.
  4. Volunteer: There a many groups like Kiwanis & Lions Club, where you can do some volunteer work. Volunteering can be a lot of fun. You meet lots of great people and giving back to the community is something that is very fulfilling.

This past Thanksgiving weekend, it was nice to have a few days to not think about our carpet cleaning business. Time with family was a great way to recharge my physical and mental batteries.

Go have some fun!

Good share, Fred and a great reminder that there is more to life than the business. Too often we see people so focused on the destination, that they forget about the journey. Important to make time to smell the roses along the way!
