A few years ago I had the incredible blessing of meeting my long-time "idol" Zig Ziglar (thanks to the power of social media). My dream had always been to hear him speak - LIVE. Instead, many years ago when I was an early adopter of Twitter, I rarely knew what to "tweet". Since I knew most of his "sayings" by heart, I quoted him often. As a result, his son, Tom Ziglar began "following me" and so I "followed him back". One day he posted a link to a blog post that he had written about the "rough year" Zig had had. He had apparently suffered a fall down a flight of stairs and suffered a mild stroke as a result. I responded with a long "letter" about what a tremendous impact he had had in the lives of so many. His son sent me a direct message saying that he had shared my response with his father, and that if I was ever in Dallas, he would love to meet me. Dazed, and with tears in my eyes, I walked out of my home office and asked my [then] husband "how long would it take for us to drive to Dallas?" (he would say that this was the only time that he ever saw me speechless:).
The next morning I woke up to find an email from Zig's daughter Julie. Her email stated that she and her parents would be at a seminar in Huntsville Alabama in a few weeks, and if I could get there, they would love for us to attend as their guests, and join them for dinner! Talk about speechless!!!
By the Grace of God, the contributions of great friends (and a husband who knew how much it meant to me), I had the honor of meeting Mr. Ziglar, his daughter Julie and "the redhead" in January of 2006. The dinner was great (although I could barely eat!:), and the experience was one that I will NEVER forget!
