I found this article on Facebook Pages’ Updated Organic-Reach-Crushing Algorithm and as a small independent artist this bothers me.
But it isn't just this alone. It is many of the other changes that Facebook have added over the last few months. I realize that Facebook is a publicly traded company and that they need to show a profit for their investors, but at what cost to their advertisers and the viewers? By the end of this year (2014) I believe that the only advertisers left on Facebook will be national brands and that their ads will be so intrusive that the average Facebook user won't find it worth the time required to keep in touch with friends and family.
Maybe the answer is to start a Group. You still have the option to make Groups private and you could set up a Group just for your family or your individual group of friends. But if that happens, then the value to advertisers will decrease even more and Facebook will probably start putting ads in Group feeds also. Either way, it is bad for local business.
I think Google has a much better platform and much better offerings for small businesses and for individuals. Maybe if we all as small independent businesses stopped offering links to our Facebook pages and only offered links to our Google+ pages it might get people to migrate that way and improve things for all of us.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this. Please post them below.
