Notice in the image above, the Photo pic entry ranks on top, followed by the other posts on Google+ followed by other posts like Inside919 which mention google plus, as these were my keyword in search. I was not logged in to Google.
This discussion is for example purposes. The point is anyone can do this. Get on Google+!
I originally posted some of this content on September 22, 2012 in my article: The Simple Logic of Letting Google Get to Know You Better — Google+...
You can go there for detailed step by step instructions to do all of this for yourself and your business or your clients if you are an SEO in Digital Marketing.
Why You Should Do This
The point is, we work on search engine optimization for our clients, us marketing folks and SEO folks. We carefully see that websites are built wisely with the best search terms for our clients. We code them meticulously so they will load quickly and the search engines can access the website content quickly. And we market our client's company and website by assisting our clients to produce great articles and seeing these are posted elsewhere on the web and linking to our client. That is what an SEO does, along with detailed competitive research and many other things.
So, here comes this upstart Google and says, well, if you work with us and have a Google+ page and let us verify your identity so we know you are not a spammer. Then we might give you a present of a little photo on your posts in the search pages. People will see you, know you are an authority and viola! You have rank you didn't have with all that other hard work.
Now people have been posting all manner of stuff on Facebook for years and it has not gained them a photo post on Google search like this. We work hard on all other SEO tasks and it does not gain us or our clients a photo post on search. But this does. Play well with Google+ and it will play well with you.
Save yourself and your clients a bit of money on some of the other tasks and help them get their authorship status on Google+. You still need the great quality content. And you need to build up your network. But, really . . . people go for the photos. You trump the search page if you are the first on that block to do this for your client. That's my goal for my clients for sure!
