There have been a number of reports of dishwashers catching on fire – most recently from Raleigh news anchor Penn Holderness who had the dishwasher at his own home catch on fire - (click here for video of his story).
GE recently had a Consumer Product Safety Commission recall of over 1 million dishwashers.
If you check the link below and find that you own a dishwasher model included in the dishwasher recalls, GE will fix the dishwasher or give you a mail-in rebate towards the purchase of a new dishwasher – a $150 or $300 credit depending on what type of dishwasher you purchase.
GE has a page on their website that lists a list of all of their appliances that have been involved in recalls over the last several years.http://www.geappliances.com/products/recall/
If you have heard that there may be a recall of any home appliance, you can look up the specifics on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website - http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prerel.html .
They have a search engine to look up by manufacturer or product type.
