Local Rules!

Got to believe in the local model...we all know that inSide919 produces results. Watch the news in the next day or so and see if Google succeeds in purchasing Groupon.

"If Google goes through with the biggest purchase in the company’s history, it will have the upper hand in local business advertising. That advantage could be so… Read More

Reasons Not to Use Stock Photography for Your Business

A lot of businesses invest in stock photography. Perhaps even the one that help you put your website together, or your marketing campaign. Really, why shouldn't you use stock photography. It can be found cheaply and with usually no hassle. A few clicks and you are done.

In today's highly competitive marketplace, now is not the time to buy inexpensive, royalty free or stock photography. You are taking the risk that your product (Be it food or widgets) or even your employees will look… Read More

HOHOHO! But Be Careful!

Apex NC 11-30-10

Tis the season to be careless... fa la la la la la la la la...

There is nothing as cool as a live Christmas Tree. It looks good. It smells awesome. Decorated, it is a work of art. A Rockwell painting right in the corner.

But trees are like pets and kids, they need to be watched by responsible adults. So please plan to water your tree regularly. Make sure it sits in the stand right. A falling tree in your living room is…

Before you use a photo read this!

When you use photos on your website or in your blog posts make sure you either own them or you have written permission from the one that does.

The reason I write this is that with permission I reposted a blog post from someone on my corporate site along with the photo they had used. Little did I know that they didn't own the rights or even purchase a license to the photo; that is until yesterday when I got a $600.00 bill in the mail from the firm that did have the…

You know that having a strong e-newsletter is key to create top-of-mind awareness for your clients and to capture potential clients as well. But how do you get good subscribers for your newsletter? It will take some consistency and some effort, but in a short amount of time it's possible to grow your list and reach many more people who want to buy your products and/or use your services. I know this since I grew my list from 100 to 1000 in eighteen months. With that…

Tomatoes & Spinach & Carrots, Oh My!

One of the ways that my Mom fueled our gardening interest was to let us choose a unique type of seed each year. We chose and grew unusual vegetables, cotton, gourds, and even flowers.

We hope to use this lesson from my Mom and introduce unusual seed during the Grow And Share children’s educational classes at the greenhouse…. and when we present at schools or scout troop meetings. We also use them in our interactive…

Mile Markers, Speedball Tucker and Plans for the New Year!

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday my family traveled to Florida to spend some time with my son who is working at his first job after graduating from college. Brian works at the Riverside Theater in Vero Beach. It was a wonderful trip and we found that Thanksgiving at Florida is warmer and more inviting than Thanksgiving in North Carolina. Nothing like walking the beach or sitting by the pool as the sounds of Christmas carols play. I really liked the different…

Know any local businesses with GREAT web sites?

I'm looking to feature some business owners on a blog. The goal: to exemplify what top-notch web marketing looks like. I would prefer to spotlight a locally-owned business rather than a franchise or large corporation.

Here's what I mean by "Great":

1. Memorable - do you still remember the site after having visited it? Do you still think about it?

2. Buzzworthy - do you tell your friends about it?

3. Effective - did you buy anything from it? Was it clear what the site… Read More

A time to reflect, a time to be grateful

As Winter nears, the days shorten and the air gets colder, I begin to think how lucky most of are with all that we have or will have. I also think of those who don't have and it makes me even more grateful of not only the things I have, but also what's most important - friends, family and the love and passions in my life.

While we all get consumed in the trimmings of this Thanksgiving, try to take pause and look…

Give Until It Feels Good

My friend and colleague, Perri Kersh, The Neat Freak is all about giving gifts to those that need them most. She and her friends have a tradition, The Giving Party, which encourages giving to any favorite charity or cause during the holiday season. Their celebratory party atmosphere makes giving fun and reminds us all that alternative gifts honor those we love without cluttering up their homes with things they truly don't need. In the… Read More

Dave Park - Boredom Research Works for Facebook Ads!

When it comes to Facebook ads, you'll get wildly varying comments and results reported in your favorite business, SEO or marketing forums. Some people are up-front about stating that Facebook ads are the greatest thing since the iPhone; others give it a total thumbs down.

That being the case, how do you get at the truth?

What makes it work for some, and not for others?

First, make sure you have a niche that suits Facebook.… Read More
