What Have You Done For Me Lately?

I am always fascinated by how different people see things.

I recently saw someone post on facebook that they are deleting any 'friends' that they haven't heard from in 6 months. That is certainly their prerogative but, it made me pause.

My initial reaction to the facebook post was to roll my eyes (to be completely honest) 'It's not all about you", I thought. The truth is, most humans come from the land of "what's in it for… Read More

If You Hired a Virtual Assistant, What Duty(s) Would You Hire Them For?

What would be the most important duty a Virtual Assistant (VA) could do for you and your business? Social Media? Maintain your client database? Keep your Quickbooks up to date? Set up your calendar for reminders?

There are so many duties that a business support specialist (VA) can do for a sole proprietor or a micro business it is hard to list all of them.

There are virtual companies that, of course, specialize in fields like bookkeeping, web site creation, and graphics to… Read More

Some Say It's the Right Time to Buy a Home- Others Say It's the Right Time to Sell a Home- Well, the Answer is "Yes" to Both!

Why Aren't More People Buying Homes in More of Wake County?

Well, we've never seen a real estate market quite like this before. We'd like to think that Wake County North Carolina is immune from national trends due to the strong influx of residents wanting to live in towns such as Wake Forest, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs and Fuquay Varina. But you know, many of these folks are electing to lease houses for 12 months rather than buy because they don't want to…

He's Not Right for My Daughter! by Dave Park - The Maverick Builder

In OZ, after Dorothy’s house is relocated to unsuitable soil, she was asked by the Lady in the Bubble, “Are you a good witch or a bad witch?” The same question goes for mother-in-laws and the answer is not a coin toss!

Maverick: “Yes your honor, I represent the defendant. The plaintiff, a mother-in-law is…

No You're Not Crazy! He Really Isn't Listening.

Hey Ladies--great news! It is not just your imagination that your man shuts down when you are having an argument. He really is. But don'tassume that it's because he doesn't care, it's that he cares too much. The more stressed he is, the more he pulls away. This is probably why men have such a hard time when women cry when they're upset.

In reading Parade Magazine this week, I came across research that both
men…

Your Facebook Ad Strategy by Dave Park - The Maveick Builder

You've done thorough market research, and read all Facebook’s rules and prohibitions... you're all ready to start your Facebook ad campaign. Before you do, however, you may need to stop and consider some little-known factors that could affect your market research conclusions.

1. You may know that Facebook allows users to search the web from Facebook: What you may not realize is that Facebook separated itself from Google. Now when you search the web via…

Imitation Can Get You Anywhere! . . . . . . . . . . . . by Dave Park - The Maverick Builder

Imitation is not only the sincerest form of flattery; it’s also a powerful way to learn new business skills and elevate your game.

The author Mark Twain learned how to write by imitating other writers. As a youth he set newspaper stories in type, tedious work, but it gave him the chance to imitate writers. He learned the fundamentals of great writing by copying.

I hear the skepticism, “Mark Twain was a great author.”

Well you’re a great professional.…

How to Organize a Cookie and Appetizer Exchange Party

Are you having trouble getting enthused about organizing your home? Sometimes the best way to get motivated to "clean sweep" is to invite some guests over. Therefore, I'm challenging you to pick a date between now and the end of the year to host a Cookie and Appetizer Party!

Plenty of folks enjoy having a variety of cookies on hand at this time of the year, and a cookie exchange is a fun and easy way to host a party with minimal shopping, expense, baking and dishes to clean. (My kind… Read More

Link Deep for SEO Benefit

Inbound Links Benefit Your Website

A link to your site is like a vote. If you randomly ask 10 people from 10 different locations what they thought of you or your site, and all said exactly the same thing, you’d walk away thinking something was fishy, or rigged, wouldn’t you? That’s how the search engines view links; if they are all nearly the same, pointing to the identical location, they will take note, and adjust (possibly penalize you) for it.

Simply put, what…

What's the Deal With These Home Warranties Anyway?

Buyers and sellers seem to be confused about home warranties. Questions I hear include: Are they worth it? Does that mean the house has passed some kind of test to qualify? Should a buyer prefer a house because the sellers are offering a warranty?

Here are points to consider:

For Sellers

Are there any old systems in your house that might need to be replaced in…

Website Marketing to Specific Markets Under One Umbrella Company

When you opened the doors to your business, large or small, you (hopefully) knew who your clients were and have/had a plan of action for marketing to them. As each product or service fills a particular want or need, making sure your branding and marketing efforts are focused correctly is very important. What happens though when your business focuses on different segments of similar markets and the cross over can be confusing for the… Read More

Campfire Journeys

Fall is my favorite season of the year. Fall is full of excitement. Living in North Carolina I always look to the State Fair in Raleigh to signal the end of the harvest and the beginning of a special time of the year where leaves change from green to an amazing colorful tapestry that signals the end of summer and the beginning of something special. For me, each fall for the past 25 years I have made a pilgrimage to the Blue Ridge Mountains with a group of close about…

Food for Thought…

I was able to attend the Get Motivated seminar that was held at the RBC center earlier this month. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was looking forward to an all star lineup of speakers. There were at least 15,000 people there looking for words of wisdom, advice, motivating ideas, and possibly some magic answers to the issues we deal with in our daily lives.

I heard some things that really rang true to me and made me think. Robert Schuler talked about when he was growing… Read More

There is a plethora of opportunity right here within the walls of the Inside 919 Chamber of Relationships for almost anything and everything. As I "old school" cold call around the Triangle, offering a wide array of Commercial Insurance for businesses, I have run into brick wall after brick wall. Man, I have just been knocking on the wrong dang door.

With over 3000 Insiders, all within the distance of my mouse pad, I have been, as they say in the country… Read More

Hiring Away...

Hiring away from

No, not like anchors away....

Hiring a new employee away from another business... when you know the business owner.

  • Does it matter if he's a competitor, or simply someone you know?
  • Does it matter if she knew the employee wasn't working up to potential, and you have a great opportunity?
  • What if the employee approached you before you thought of making an offer?

People in my circle have a mixture of responses to these…
