The Shiny Black Chrysiat

4-30-09 Apex, NC

We will never forget this day. Ever. Walter Chrysler is turning over. The Dodge Brothers have tears running down their cheeks and are now the Blues Brothers. And everyone in the now defunct Chrysler LLC is on pins and needles waiting for the shiny shoe of the White House to drop.

Interesting it was done on the last day of the month and the last day of the quarter. Perfect timing to go bankrupt. Any car guy would have waited a day or two. But the… Read More

Scary Idle Thoughts

4-29-09 Apex, NC

This is the time of month to go get a car; the deals have truly never been better for you the customer. The salespeople already know tomorrow is the end of the month. Hope both parties take advantage of it.

Happy Birthday, Barb!

Many of you already know who Barb Borkowski is. She's an inside919 Trustee who welcomes just about each and every one of you into this network without even knowing who you are.

When you meet Barb, you'll immediately notice her calming, soft-spoken presence. You can't help but feel less stressful with her around; being an energy and communication therapist, she induces relaxation just by entering the room. In fact, she… Read More

One hundred haikus

There was a time in life when I wrote poetry. That was long ago. The hair was longer and the muscles stronger. This year on January 17th I wrote my first poem in years, a short haiku, and planned to write one per day for ninety days as a personal challenge to work an underused portion of my brain. Two days later we had a beautiful snowfall, which is historic for Raleigh and that was the topic for the day’s haiku. I liked it and after recently joining Inside919, posted the note on a lark.… Read More

Twittering in the Garden

The Triangle finally had perfect weather this past weekend and it seemed like everyone was outside soaking in the sunlight and the warmth. At my house my wife Linda and I were in the yard landscaping and planting for most Saturday and Sunday. My quest this weekend was to make my backyard look like one of those beautiful color pictures I see when I flip through Southern Living Magazine.

I could tell that everyone in The Triangle was busy as I worked along because I was able to keep up… Read More

Countdown to Launch! - Part 4 - CreateSpace and Lulu Pros & Cons

Hello 919 friends! Welcome to part 4 of my series of blog posts counting down from rough idea to published book. One important part of the countdown for anyone who wants to write a book is figuring out how to publish your work. Even if you know you're going the self-publishing route, you still have many choices about which self-publishing service you'll use. Today, I'll share my experience with two self-publishing companies: CreateSpace and Lulu.

CreateSpace: After just… Read More

PLANNING A YARD SALE

A pocketful of cash, a clutter-free home, and a lot of interaction between your stuff and passers-by all make yard sales hard to resist. Who hasn’t driven by a yard sale and wondered if there’s a too-good-to-be-true bargain hiding behind a used sewing machine, or if the perfect whatcha-ma-call-it at a to-die-for price is amidst all the other treasures?

Why have a yard sale?

We all want our homes to be clean and neat and to reflect who we are. A truly great home… Read More

Idle Thoughts Really Again

Talladega needs to keep the cars on the ground. The catch fence did just that. Up to seven fans were hurt when debris blazed through the fencing. How long before we slow it down there?

This week I made three purchases. Three times I was disappointed.

ODD WALLA

The first purchase was an Odwalla drink. If you don't know Odwalla, they make organic, fresh smoothies and fruit juices. I continued to buy them even knowing that they now belong to Coca Cola, and made a few cracks about the clock already ticking until the inevitable replacement of the juice with high fructose corn… Read More

Shutting Detroit Down

4-23-09 Apex, NC

Oh boy. It is serious now. It almost looks inevitable that Chrysler is going into Chapter 11, and that General Motors will become Gen Mo... Cut in half with elimination. It is a very scary mess. That Kangaroo station down the street, that local grocery store, restaurants across America will be affected. When Gen Mo closes factories for NINE weeks this summer, the ripple will be felt everywhere. This single act alone will set the economy back again.

The new… Read More

Inside New York Life

4-23-09 Apex, NC...

I think that social networking within any kind of business gathering brings us face-to-face with so many opportunities to share ideas. I still believe the byproduct of any gathering is business. That is an extra, side thing that happens. And it should.

New York Life had such a gathering today in Raleigh. Mostly Insiders showed and it was great to share and develop new ideas through conversation. Great food, a plithera of wonderful sushi presented by… Read More

Life On Earth 1970

4-22-09 Apex, NC...

Well it is Earth Day again. I remember the first one. As a high schooler, we had projects and presentations. It was a big deal. The next year not so much! But it does symbolize how far we have come as a "global" community.

Here was 1970 for my generation... The Beatles and the Supremes broke up. Computers were the size of small rooms. To call someone you had to find the chord. Bob Hope and Vietnam partnered together. Dick Nixon was president. I… Read More
