I recently had an interesting experience that taught me a HUGE business life lesson when it came to GIVING a quality referral.

I was contacted by a former business associate, who I hadn’t spoken to in a few years. He called and said he wanted to “hire me” for his new business. As I listened to his…

It's been nearly a year. My girlfriend and I moved to Cary from Michigan in the Spring of 2009. In a previous life I had traveled much of North America and was always drawn to the Raleigh area. One of the main attractions was the landscape. As a Michigan outdoorsman I spent a lot of time in northern Michigan in the back woods and on lakes and streams. The area west and north of town here is so much like those same north woods. With one major difference. Although midwesterners are a friendly…

of them. She thought the flexible opportunity of pet sitting was a
great idea, and really enjoys working with our varied clients’

I just wanted to find a place to rant a bit about my fellow travelers. I travel between Chapel Hill and Raleigh/Garner on my daily commute. I set the cruise control at the speed limit of 65mph. But it seems the majority of my fellow travelers act like they want to be on a race track. What is it with the rest of them? They follow too closely, they fly like demons, and they are making travel hazardous! PLEASE plan ahead a little bit so that you can slow down to 65. Not only will your drive be…

Last week I traveled to West Virginia and spent six days challenging myself to levels of complete uncomfortably. It was good for me but at times I was way outside of my “OK” zone.
The first part of the week my wife and I traveled to Snowshoe Ski Resort. In the past we have usually traveled to the Western Rockies to ski but we tried something different this year. We have never experienced so most snow falling and piling up as we did through those three days. It snowed about one…

My blog really isn't all about beer, but I finally got over to the
LoneRider Brewing Co. with a friend of mine this past Saturday and want to share my thoughts. I have no idea why it has taken me this long to check out such a cool place. Afterall, it did open up well over a year ago right here in Raleigh and…

I'm especially excited about this week's post written by Dr. Marla Deibler of
The Center for Emotional Health of Greater Philadelphia, LLC because it's a topic confusing to many. At least a dozen times, well-meaning loved ones have asked me, "Why not remove the hoarder from her home, put her in a rehab unit, clean out the house while she gets counseling and then return her to a clean home like they do on…

Here are a few reasons why your light bulbs might be burning out quickly:
1. Cheap Bulbs. Those 4 for a dollar generic named light bulbs will most likely never last as long as the brand name. They simply use poor materials and thin filaments.
2. Wrong light bulb for the application
a. If the fixture is…

Approximately 26,000 new companies are formed each year in North Carolina. In that same year, over 23,000 companies fail due to poor management and operational mistakes. The statistics are worse in rural and minority populations. This means that good ideas go to waste along with the grant and investor funds that helped get these companies started. As a result, the potential growth of revenue and new jobs is lost also.
If we had assistance for entrepreneurs who are struggling to…

Ever have a FREAK ACCIDENT? I just did. I was driving home on Davis Drive and all of a sudden my drivers window exploded and I noticed the mirror was hanging. I figured someone threw a brick or maybe I just got shot at and skedaddled. I got home and had to crawl out of the passengers side because it turned out that the car was crunched on three panels! I came in the house and said… Read More

As many of my fellow insiders are also independent business owners and entreprenurial types as well; I want to encourage you to consider independently owned funeral service providers when the need arises. I represent Bryan-Lee Funeral Homes in Raleigh, Garner, and Angier. More funeral homes are becoming acquired and operated by large corporations. The corporate funeral home operations in the Triangle include Montlawn, Brown-Wynne, Mitchell, Raleigh Memorial Park,, and McLauren. Private owners…

Today’s Acronymns
Yahoo – You Always Have Other Options!
In this time of economic crisis, the only thing we have to fear is … acronyms, suggests Louise Radnofsky in the Wall Street Journal . The idea that there is not a government program that can’t be distilled into a bunch of letters was popularized, of course, by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or FDR.…
