Justin- you've brought up an interesting point about who came up with 9 to 5 anyway. Personally, I'm more interested in "who came up with Monday - Friday". When I tell people that I'm not in the office on Fridays, they look at me as if I have 2 he...

About my Business:
YellowWood Group is a strategic marketing firm that helps growing and midsize companies choose the right marketing mix to achieve wildly important business and sales goals.

About Me:
So you want to know me a little better huh? Don't say I didn't warn you . . .

1- My father gave me my first name.
2- My husband gave me my last name.
3- I have issues with men . . . and names.

- Most people call me "O" (then for some strange reason they go back to calling me Olalah)
- My favorite color is purple.
- I hate rain.
- I always thought I'd be a 6th grade English teacher.

I have an 18 year old daughter and a 15 year old son. They refuse to ever live home. They claim they like the way it's decorated.

When I tell people that I'm married to an engineer, they usually extend their condolences.

OK - that's the good, the bad & the ugly. Now that you know WHO I am, here's a bit about WHAT I do . . .

I am the CEO & Senior Marketing Strategist of YellowWood Group and the creator of the Marketing With Ease™ marketing system for small & solo business professionals.

I am a volunteer counselor for SCORE®, the largest all volunteer, non-profit organization for small business in the United States. I also sit on the advisory board for the Women's Business Center, a program of the North Carolina Institute of Minority Economic Development in Durham NC.

I speak and train extensively on all things marketing and am a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA). I will publish my first book, "37 What Were They Thinking Moments In Marketing" shortly.

I have served as an entrepreneurship coach at the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University Of North Carolina and am serving for a 3rd term as a Board Advisor for the Business & Industry Services Group of Wake Technical Community College.

In October, 2009, I was honored as a Stevie Award Women In Business Finalist in the category of Lifetime Achievement. The Stevie Award is an internationally recognized award and I was deeply moved to receive the letter in the mail.

Where's Your Inner Phoenix?

It can happen to anyone at any time . . . life gets in the way.

Remember all of those dreams you had? You know the ones, the dreams of creating the life you wanted, the lifestyle you craved and the flexibility and freedom to live on your own terms.

For me, somewhere between business ownership, "mom-dom" and "wife-dom", I put some of my dreams on hold. Eventually, the fire inside that I had for those dreams started to fizzle until the flame went out.

I decided to sign up for… Continue

What's Your Theme Song For Today?

The sun is out today in the Raleigh metro area. If you know me well, then you know I can only go about 2 days without sunshine before I start to eat paste and climb the walls.

Today, there is a special skip in my step. The sun is beaming. I'm working from home. I'm waiting (ever so impatiently) for my website to be finished with its new look. And IT'S FRIDAY!!!!!

Most people know that Friday is my "Sharpen The Saw" day. If you are a 7 Habits follower, this will make sense… Continue

Why I'm So Glad That My Stepfather Taught Me How To Drive Backward

When do you ever really need to know how to drive backward? I mean really, we might back up to adjust for parking, but no one ever really "drives" backward right?

When I was 15, my stepfather taught me how to drive. He insisted that I learn how to drive based on 2 fundamental principles.

Principle #1 - Learn how to drive a stick (manual) just in case you go out on a date with a guy driving a pick-up truck and he tells you "put out or get out". You can kick him in the b*lls, take his key… Continue

What's Your Crazy Collectible?

Come on . . . we all have one crazy thing that we collect that we don't tell folks about.

OK, maybe your closest of close friends know about it, or your family. But other than that, no one knows that you are collecting this "thing".

My "thing", my crazy collectible thing . . . is a coffee mug.
Might sound strange to some as I've been a tea drinker my whole life. But then . . . wham!
My daughter turned 13 and I have been surviving off coffee ever since.
Any guesses on why? (SheContinue

What's Your Music For Melancholy Moments?

We all have them . . . moments of melancholy. Melancholy doesn't have to be a bad thing. It can be a good way to mentally escape and drift into another state of mind. See life through different eyes. Awaken something that was left undone inside your spirit. Give your soul a reason to exhale and take another breath.

When I feel melancholy rearing it's head, I put on some vintage Madonna. Not the stuff she sings now, the stuff she sang ten, fifteen years ago. . . when she sang for the pure… Continue
