This was inspired by a conversation earlier this summer with a group of people talking about job hunting and freelancing. One of the suggestions I gave was "work your network", and I got an immediate "That's just a phrase! What specifically can *I* do?" So I started putting some thoughts down, and wanted to share some here.
The busiest people I know *tend* to be…

I’ve been asked this question ever since the I started the first indieconf a few years ago. Recently I was asked about this from the perspective of someone who is hoping to get in to tech-conference speaking (and I hope most people in the tech field give it a shot at least once – you might like it!) So… I decided to post some thoughts here about the selection process.
Firstly, every conference is different. Some will have a full…

The short answer is no! There are dozens of events for techies to go learn about great tech stuff. I go to some myself, and enjoy them, but the aim of indieconf is different. While many (most?) of the attendees will have a technical background (developer, designer, etc), the conference is meant to focus on the soft-side of working for yourself. Sessions cover the financial, legal, emotional(!), marketing and yes, some…

I recently found this article from Fox News regarding freelance workers, indicating that freelancers were, statistically, healthier and happier than similar people who were employees. From the article:

Pat Howlett said… Happy Birthday Michael - also have a great trip to Russia.

Gaynor Fries, 919 Director said… Happy Birthday Michael - hope today is doughnut-filled and lots of fun!

Robin Thomas said… Once you got started talking about your passion for computer programming, you were fantastic. That's what it's all about, isn't it? :)

Pat Howlett said… Hey Michael, want to take a minute and personally Thank you! for being Inside919, I wish you and yours Happy Holidays, a Very Merry Christmas and the Most Successful 2013 possible.
I promise to increase my efforts around here to increase your visibility, reputation and business connections. Let me know whenever I can be of help.

Darrell Hill said… I would like to meet up sometime. Let me know what your availability is. That would be great.

Darlene Diamond Stibb said… Michael - it was great chatting with you Tuesday. Lots of good information! Hope you can join us again soon.

Darrell Hill said… Hey, Michael. Thanks for the welcome. I didn't have much of a chance to talk with you at the IndieConf. I had to truncate the day and I'm sure you were busy. I found it to be both informative and inspirational. (Definitely don't have to be a techie to benefit!) I'm assuming there will be a Indieconf 2013 and I will be clearing my calendar for it. Thanks for letting me know about it.

Darren Coburn said… Yeah, but they didn't like curious george.
Jed Leviner said… Great to meet you today. I look forward to seeing you around again soon.

David Widman said… Thank you Michael~! I look forward to meeting you at an event~!
