First Rites - Philip F. O'Connor

Published in the San Francisco Chronicle on February 2, 1997

In the late spring of 1957, Martin Luther King Jr. was struggling to gain control of the budding civil rights movement. On a ridiculously smaller scale, I, then a cub reporter on the San Francisco News, was attempting to prove to myself and my editors that I could do more than write amusing feature stories. The young minister's path and mine would cross - more accurately, I'd be thrown…

2012 - Two Networking Ideas for the New Year

Posted on January 4, 2012 at 2:03pm 1 Comment

What can you do to make your networking successful in 2012?

1. Big Events May Not Be Big – One of the mistakes I see a lot of well-intended people do in networking is to focus on “big” networking events. For example, I know dozens of people who will attend a 500+ person economic forecast and are sincerely expecting to make excellent connections. This same group of people call one on one coffee and lunches “a kind of waste of time” because you “just can’t get to as many people” in…

How to Post Your Resume in an Online Application

Posted on October 28, 2011 at 12:42pm 0 Comments

It seems easy enough. A company wants your resume. You just click on their site and there's your perfect or next best job. You are excited. Your resume looks good to you. You look for the button to click and send. It should be that easy. But then you get to the proverbial next step. Now your options are limited. Now they want you to fill in an online application. You now have to past each and every date into tiny little boxes. Now you have to cut all those details from the body of your resume… Read More

Hey John, just wanted to get you the latest update on the Membership Transition of Inside919.

The free Member option is simply not going to work out - with it I have no way to determine who is interested in being an active member and who is simply not checking their email or these comments.

Not requiring some sort of decision leaves us with the same problem I'm trying to resolve. I am sorry for the confusion I've caused.

Simply click on the link above to see where we're going and why.

Let me know if you have any questions - the Goal is to create a more active and dynamic business community.
