If it's easier than owning a goldfish, I can do it. Probably.
About my Business:
I prefer to work virtually. In fact, up until early October of 2008, I had gone 500+ days without meeting one client. How do I go 500+ days without a face-to-face client meeting? It's easy - be human on the web. I write copy that builds relationships based on trust and rapport with my prospects. You live in a country in the Middle East? No problem. I have clients there. Canada? Sure, why not, eh? Barbados? Yup, I've got a client there, too. Heck, I've even worked virtually with people in and around Raleigh. Some of you are even inSide919ers, aren't you?

If you're serious about your content and want to get a quote for writing, editing or re-writing content for your website, visit:

http://jasonpedley.com/freequote.html

All I need is your name, email address, and a little information about what you're looking for. From there I get your free quote in about two-to-three business days.
About Me:
I'm the person you call when you need the content of your website written or re-written. Nothing says you're serious about your online presence like fresh, search-engine-optimized copy that gets the attention of your prospects and the search engines.

I've been writing copy for almost ten years in ad agencies, PR agencies, as a freelancer, and even in the advertising department of the second-largest casino in the U.S. So, if I can get grandma to pull the one-armed bandit day-in and day-out for months at a stretch, I'm pretty sure I can help you, too.

And the best part is - I'm so much more than just a copywriter. Ten years teaches you a lot if you're in the right settings. I've managed brand guidelines, print ad campaigns, PR campaigns, website production, logo design and more. I've written for TV and radio (Don Imus used to read my words every day), and I'm currently looking for a few good clients in 919.

By the way, if you keep reading, you'll notice I have an 860 area code number followed by a 919 number. In today's world of cell number portability, I'm sure nobody will complain that I use an 860 number on inSide919.
My Ideal Customer is:
Someone who's tired, frustrated, fed up, even sick of trying to write about their company, business, service, etc. Someone who KNOWS the value of good copy. Someone who understands that the money I charge is not wasted...that the copy I write is an investment that will pay for itself over and over as you make more and more sales.

My ideal customer is someone who's not afraid to let an expert do the job - someone who can let go of their 'baby' long enough to let me swoop down, give them the content they need, and get the heck out of their hair and let them run their business...yet still know I'm just a phone call, IM or email away.

It might be worth it to mention that my ideal customer is also someone who pays on time, doesn't waste my time 'shopping me around' and who plays an active role in each project. :-)

A sense of humor helps too.
My Ideal Referral Partner is:
1. An advertising or marketing agency that needs a writer who understands the role of content and search engine optimization.

2. A small-to-medium sized business looking to create compelling content that drives sales and helps them compete online.

Hey Jason,

I will be at the Coffee mill next Wednesday around 8:30 am, meeting with Lorraine, who just joined the group and a client of mine, so if you want we can meet for a few minutes around 9 or so. I have to be in Smithfield at 10. Hope this works! Thanks.

Jason, I am "pure laine" Canadian (at least I think "wool" is feminine?) This is actually the French term for being "full blooded" so to speak - perhaps you already know this. My husband and I are both from Montreal although I spent ten years in Ontario for some elementary through high school and my undergraduate degree. How are things in Clayton? Peace, Suzanne

Anything Can be Marketed

If you can tell a story about something, it can be marketed.

I realized this when I lived in Connecticut and branded the Mother of All Garage Sales (aka M.O.A.G.S.). It struck me, as I read some Craigslist posts prior to posting my info, that nearly every garage/yard sale description was the same. Clothes, toys, tools, books, no early birds, blah, blah, blah. I knew I had to be different to stand out. There had to be a story behind the marketing of my garage sale that would grab people a… Continue

What Could You Do in 24 Hours?

It doesn't matter if you've been furloughed, fired, quit, been injured or otherwise: Not working is not working.

As a freelancer, I have clients come and go. And with the economy, I often get no more notice than a brief email that says "We're cutting back" or "We need you to lower your prices."

So, there can be days where I find myself with some spare time on my hands.

Does that mean my skills sit on the shelf while I have down time? Of course not.

This happened to me a week or so ago after… Continue

Are your Twitter links DOA?

Think that link you posted on Twitter is going to drive traffic to your site for days, weeks or months on end?

Think again.

Links you post on Twitter get most (nearly all) their traffic in the first five minutes.

Just a quick share...Generations Online in 2009 (slideshare presentation)

None of us is getting any younger, but it's interesting to note how those younger (and older) than each of us is using this Internet gizmo.

The slideshow gives an indication of what age groups are doing what online.

Some days I have to remind myself that I am lucky to have started with the Internet at the age of 14. (I'm 33 this year). One thing I never have to remind myself of is the value and importance of the Internet to my business.

It's 11 slides - grab a cup of coffee and enjoy.… Continue

Using Twitter to Connect With Journalists for Free Publicity

I'm certainly no Twitter power-user. I follow just over 550 people and, honestly, don't want to follow too many more unless they come with a glowing recommendation from someone else I know and trust.

One of the people I DO follow is a reporter from NBC17 who just happened to post on Twitter a few weeks back that she was looking for sources for a special report about making the most of online job searching and networking. I w… Continue

It's not hypocritical. Over the past year, I've seen my clients and friends get thrown under the proverbial bus by the state. From the NC Affiliate tax to incentives for big companies, the state has made it clear that small and micro-businesses ar...
