Profile Information

About my Business:
I am the owner and chiropractor at Atlas Chiropractic. Now located at 211-B S. Salem Street in Apex. I share office space with Dr. Steve Isadore. I'm excited for the opportunity to work with him and other professionals in the area.

I'm also excited about the new scheduling program we have. You can schedule appointments as usual, but you can now schedule your own appointments online. Just click on this link:

Make an Online Appointment

My patients quickly find that I am not the average chiropractor. I am one of fewer than 300 chiropractors in the world to hold the title of Board Certified Atlas Orthogonist. I have been studying the the Atlas Orthogonal technique since 1990, before graduating from chiropractic school. After graduating, my wife and I were invited to work with the founder and developer of the technique, Dr. Roy W. Sweat, in Atlanta. After that we opened our first practice in Williamsburg, VA.

The Atlas Orthogonal technique is unique in the profession in that it is one of the first instrument based adjusting procedures. Being instrument based allows for great precision and replication of the procedure. (When you get something that works for you, you want to be able to repeat it.) Also, angles (vectors) of correction can be varied to within one-half a degree enabling the adjustment to be made with minimal force. There's no need to twist, pop, or crack the neck and spine.

In general, the atlas acts like a keystone in a bridge. If it is askew due to erosion or an accident, the bridge will be less stable.

Because of the great precision in setting the atlas the procedure has more lasting benefits. All other procedures tend to be done with greater ease.

The bottom line? Patients' adjustments last longer which saves them time and money.
About Me:
When I'm not wearing the hat of chiropractor and business owner, one enjoy greatly is that of musician. I play trombone in several local groups and will most likely never stop. I also enjoy being a father and grandfather, gardener and many others.

I am a former professional musician/trombonist. I've been playing trombone for almost 40 years and find it alternatively thoroughly enjoyable and frustrating. It is a lot like golf; a little frustrating at times, but because you love it, you don't stop paying the green fees.

I spent 4 years in a couple of different US Air Force Band assignments touring the US and Europe. I currently play in 2 local jazz big bands, The NC Revelers Orchestra and The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra. I also play in and substitute for various other ensembles in the North Carolina area.

The first time that I realized that I needed to see a chiropractor was when I was an Air Force musician. The pain that I had developed between my shoulder blades was unbearable and it took my breath away. (It is very hard to play bass trombone without breathing. Try it sometime.) Because in my job with the Air Force Band, I was sitting in rehearsals at least 6 hours a day.

I went to the only German chiropractor in the town at the time and she explained that the reason for my mid-back pain was that the shift in my pelvis caused by my wallet in my back pocket. This had produced a compensating misalignment higher up my spine at the site of an old injury. She adjusted my thoracic spine and the ribs back and I moved my wallet to the front pocket and that fixed that problem. I was fascinated with it ever since.

My wife, Donna, and I met at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and were married in 1992. Together we have 7 children and 1o (and growing) grandchildren and step-grandchildren, a few of whom live with us. We've been blessed by them, their parents and my mother-in-law who all live with us.
My Ideal Referral is:
I have become the go-to guy for treating headaches and musicians' injuries in the Raleigh, Durham, and RTP area. But people come to me from all over North and South Carolina for help with anything from headaches to low back pain and many things in between, auto accidents, sports injuries, high blood pressure, indigestion,...you name it.

As a musician, I have seen too many people who have spent years lugging big, heavy instruments, or having to hold a particular posture for hours on end to play a violin, tuba, or an upright bass. Many of those playing now are retired and they have a very real challenge doing what they love; playing their instruments. Their injuries are very similar to most sports injuries - mostly related to repetitive stress.

Chiropractic skeptics and people who are not getting good results with what they have been trying also make ideal patients and referrals for me.
My Ideal Referral Partner is:
General and family practice MD's
Dentists
Massage Therapists
Naturopathic Doctors
Acupuncturists
Neurologists
And satisfied patients are my greatest sources of referrals.

Stand Up!

Posted on November 28, 2011 at 1:30pm 0 Comments

You and I may be dying more rapidly than you think if we don't Stand Up for your health!

Look at the stats in this article from the medicalbillingandcoding.org website. Some of them are pretty frightening as I SIT here typing this out to share with Inside919ers.

You are 40% more likely to die within 15 years if you sit 6 or more hours a day than if you were to sit only 3 hours a…

Coffee Breaks - Solving the world's problems is easy!

Posted on February 22, 2011 at 1:51pm 4 Comments

It truly amazes me how much can be done over a cup of coffee. What follows is that true story.

Once upon an Inside919 Coffee Break, Peter Agiovlassitis, a friend of mine who I met at the Wake Zone Espresso, solved almost every problem of the day. As we sat waiting for the others (who never appeared) to arrive and drinking some of the Wake Zone's fine coffee, we discussed raising kids, marketing our businesses, global politics, poverty, famine, world unrest, etc. You know...the usual… Read More

Is Chiropractic Affordable?

Posted on December 13, 2010 at 11:30pm 0 Comments

Every day chiropractors get the question of affordability, either directly or by implication. "Does insurance cover chiropractic?" "How much will it cost me?" "I went to a chiropractor once and he wanted to charge me a lot, up front for a prepaid plan." And more common recently, "I would love to continue with chiropractic but my husband just lost his job and his insurance coverage."

The answer to the "is chiropractic affordable" question is…

Hi George,

Thanks for letting me know. I actually have a doctor appt at 10 so I won't be able to make it although it sounds really interesting. I have not been there lately because I have been going over to White Memorial for the job seekers. As much as I really enjoy going to the meetings, I still need a job.

Believe it or not, I found out I have a bulging disc. I am seeing Dr. Brolin and have seen her for about three appointments. I am almost 100 percent better. I had this before many years ago and I am amazed at how the chiropractic method works. I was doing the McKenzie method for a long time and it just did not help me. You chiropractors are like gods!
