The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra is looking for a rehearsal room in Apex. It is a big, 18 piece swing band so we need a large room for a couple of hours from 7:30 to 9:30, one Thursday night per month. A church usually would have adequate space,…

About my Business:
Atlas Chiropractic recently moved to 536 E. Williams Street in Apex. Partly economy and partly, it just makes sense not to spend so much in overhead by going it alone.
I am one of fewer than 300 chiropractors in the world to hold board certification in Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractic. I have been studying the the Atlas Orthogonal technique since 1990. I worked with the founder and developer of the technique, Dr. Roy W. Sweat, in Atlanta from 1993 to 1994 after graduation from Chiropractic school.
This technique is unique in the profession in that it is one of the first instrument based adjusting procedures. Being instrument based allows for replication of the procedure. (When you get something that works for you, you want to be able to get it again don't you.) Also, vectors (angles) of correction can be varied to within 0.5 degrees enabling the adjustment to be made with minimal application of force.
In general, the atlas acts like a keystone in a bridge. If it is askew due to erosion or an accident, the bridge will be less stable. Setting the atlas requires great precision in order for the procedure to have lasting benefits. All other procedures tend to be done easier and last longer if the atlas is in its proper place.
So adjustments last longer and that saves the patient time and money.
About Me:
I am a former professional musician/trombonist. I spent many years of my life playing trombone and thoroughly enjoying it. I find it is a lot like golf. It can be a little frustrating at times, but because you love it, you don't stop paying the green fees.
I spent 4 years in a couple of different US Air Force Bands touring the US and Europe. I currently play in 4 jazz big bands, The NC Revelers Orchestra, the Jazz Alliance Orchestra, The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, and the Moonlighters. I also play in a trombone choir, a small trombone group called "Brass on the Slide," and various other ensembles in the North Carolina area.
The first time that I realized that I needed to see a chiropractor was for pain be3tween my shoulder blades that took my breath away. (It is hard to play bass trombone without breath. Try it sometime.) Because in my job with the Air Force Band, I was sitting at least 6 hours a day and the only chiropractor in Kaiserslautern, Germany practically diagnosed my problem without ever meeting me. She said, "you American men always wear your wallets in your back pockets." She explained that that is why my mid-back pain was there. The shift in my pelvis caused by my wallet (not full of money by the way) had produced a compensating misalignment higher up my spine. She adjusted the rib back and I moved my wallet to the front pocket. That was the end of that.
My wife, Donna, and I met at Palmer College of Chiropractic (Davenport, IA) and were married in 1992. Together we have 7 children and 4.5 grandchildren.
Our children range in age from 28 to 12.. We also have 4 grand children. Two grandchildren, along with their mother, live with us for the time being.
I am a native of North Carolina, having grown up in Charlotte. "I like calling North Carolina home," though it would be better with fewer taxes and less government.
My Ideal Customer is:
I have always wanted to have a niche chiropractic business in the musicians and music lover field. This is my passion; I want to be the musician's chiropractor. I know musicians. I know the various stresses that playing their instruments puts on their bodies. I know techniques that can help them play longer and enjoy playing longer. Their injuries are really no different than those of athletes.
I have seen too many people who have spent years lugging a big heavy instrument, or having to hold a particular posture for hours on end to play an upright bass, and now that they are retired, they have a very real challenge doing what they love, playing their instrument.
Patients who are skeptics and people who are not getting results in what they have tried make great patient referrals for me.
I especially have a fondness for working with headache sufferers. Their results seem to be more immediate and longer lasting on average.
My Ideal Referral Partner is:
Someone in the health care arena who is willing to work together for the sake of the patient. Dentists, Massage Therapists, Acupuncturists, Neurologists, are a few examples of where many of my referrals come from.

Alternative Healthcare in the current economy

Let me first say that I don't consider what I do as an "Alternative Healthcare" modality, but it is outside of the mainstream of recent tradition so I just have to cope with it.
As a chiropractor I have been interested to follow economic trends and their influence of alternative healthcare spending. I recently heard a statistic that vacation spending over this past summer in eastern North Carolina was down by 40%. (My guess is that this is pretty accurate.) On the same day, I heard about spendin… Continue

Hi George,

It's nice to meet you. It's great that you can combine your passions into such a beneficial business. Are you still looking for massage therapists to network with and provide additional support for your clients?

Hi George, I so hate the term "alternative" too. Spending money to correct and prevent health problems is considered a luxury, while expensive and dangerous treatments for catastrophic health problems is covered. The tide seems to be turning a little bit, however, as more people discover that it's worth it to spend money to take care of the body.

Hope you thoroughly enjoyed your sister's wedding and your HS reunion! I just had my 28th last month.

What up!
Me and George used to be in a networking group. He helped my wife quite a bit with her migraine (spelling?) headaches. I would recommend using his services. I also hear he plays some mean jazz music!
