About my Business:
Striving for More is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of psychosocial care for children battling cancer and to provide funding to hospitals so they can implement emotional and spiritual support services to better serve the needs of these children.
Many excellent physicians are working on research to find cures for cancer. However, these priorities frequently result in a lack of funding for proper psychosocial care. Striving for More seeks to obtains funds from corporate sponsors, charitable organizations, community involvement and fund raising events.
“The failure to address the very real psychosocial health needs of patients and their caregivers is a failure to effectively treat that patient’s cancer, plain and simple.” according to an October 2007 Institute of Medicine report brief (Cancer Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health Needs)
Proper psychological care for our children should be a health care standard, not a luxury.
About Me:
I have more than 20 years of experience working for major corporations as a Business Analyst and most recently as a Program Manager. In June of 2008 my life was tragically turned upside down when my 9 year old daughter, Colleen died of Osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer. During Colleen’s 9 month battle with this disease, we took Colleen to three different hospitals and saw distinctly different levels of care in the area of psychosocial support. After Colleen died, thoughts of children struggling with life threatening and terminal cancers without proper emotional support continued to haunt me. In October, I made the decision to research the issue more fully which led to the decision to create the charitable organization called Striving for More and dedicate my full time work day to making this organization a success. I live in Raleigh with my husband, Vince and my 12 year old daughter, Mackenna. I am also actively involved with my church (Evergreen Community Church) and my community (Hawthorne).
My Ideal Customer is:
I would enthusiastically welcome any companies interested in being a corporate sponsor of Striving for More, Inc.
I am also looking for any individuals who would like to make a meaningful investment to improve the future of health care for children in our region.
Hey Diane, by now either Heather or Angel have shared that the all our Trustees selected Striving for More as the org to direct the funds from the Holiday party. I tried to keep out of that decision, but can now share that I am happy and 100% agree with them.
I'll be writing a Blog post sometime today and well as notifing the membership. I'll also try to give you a call so we can get the funds to you.
Hey Diane, Wanted to take a minute and personally share the Local Coffee Break networking opportunity we're trying to foster to connect members and to let you know I'll be posting info on the 2009 Christmas party soon - please keep a look out.
Hey Diane! Good to connect with you! Let me know if I can offer my event planning services for any charity events you may do in the future. Maybe we can sit down real soon and do some brainstorming fundraising ideas! Looking forward to it! I am all about helping non profits with their fundraising needs! Big supporter here!

Hi Diane- I'm so thankful Maribeth made the introduction. After reading your profile my heart is full. First know that my family and our organization will support you in any way we can. You are going to be one of those amazing stories, i just feel it. I am so thankful to have people like you stand up instead of giving up, when life provides us with opportunity through tragedy. God bless you for the great work you are doing. I pray for peace and success for your organization; and that more of us can have the strength and courage that you do. Thank you for making a positive impact in my life today.
