Millennium Technology Consulting provides Linux and Open Source consulting services for small to medium sized businesses that want to discover how to save money and improve the productivity of their enterprise.

We currently serve the Raleigh-Durham, RTP area of North Carolina.
About Me:
A seasoned professional with over thirty-five years of experience in the computer industry, much of which is with personal computer hardware, operating systems and networking. He has major strengths in operating systems, technical and non technical problem solving, course development, training, communications skills and Customer support.

David worked for twenty-one years at IBM in various positions including Customer Engineer, Course Development Representative where he wrote the first internal training course on the IBM PC in 1981, Field Manager, and Customer support Representative in which position he provided in-depth technical support for IBM PC products including OS/2.

David worked as a trainer for Red Hat where he taught the RHCE courses and administered the RHCE examinations.

He has also worked for a number of other organizations including:

* MCI-WorldCom
* Interpath
* The State of North Carolina where he ran the State email network, NCMail.
* Cisco Systems as a Software Engineer and lab administrator for Linux products and systems.

Certifications

David Both currently holds over a dozen technical certifications, including:

* Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
* Sun Certified System Administrator
* IBM Certified Warp Server Administrator
My Ideal Customer is:
Small to medium sized customers with 2 to 500 computers that are old and slow and need to be upgraded.

Linux+ Training in Charleston

I will be teaching a 4.5 day Linux+ training class in Charleston, SC, the week of September 21.

You Get What You Pay for — or Not

The old saying “You get what you pay for” seems true on its surface, and it can be true. I like to save money, but many times I am willing to pay more for a better brand or an upgrade to a product with more features. I do this because I know the better brand will last longer or the product with more features has a particular feature I need or find useful.

Summer Thunderstorms and Power Failures

Spring and summer are the seasons for thunderstorms although they can actually occur any time during the year. In the state of North Carolina alone during the time period between January 1, 2000 and March 3, 2009, 8040 thunderstorms occurred(1) — and these are only the ones with hail over 1″ and wind speeds of at least 50 Knots.
