Multiple Streams of Income for Introverts

As most of us have figured out, it takes multiple streams of income to thrive in the new economy. From my perspective as an introverted entrepreneur, this is a good thing and a bad thing. My greatest strength (and my greatest weakness at the same time) is the fact that I’m great at thinking up [...]

Boring Sells; Sizzle Fizzles

I just spent the weekend in a training seminar where I had this insight among many others. Believe me, this was difficult to swallow. After getting over my temper tantrum and surrendering to reality, though, I found the idea to be a bit of a relief. As an Introverted Entrepreneur, I’ve always had quite the attachment [...]

Shifting Gears

Are you willing to shift gears in your business? What about in your writing? It’s a fine line to walk. Every now and then, it’s necessary to re-evaluate your strategy. However, it can be tricky. At some point, you have to ask yourself if you’re throwing out the baby with the bath water. Confession: this blog [...]

What Would Open Your Floodgates?

If you’re working on a book, and you’re stuck, getting the floodgates back open may be simpler than you think. Much as I love to pretend to be a God on this blog, I don’t always have the answers. Much as I like to present myself as the master of unbridled 24/7 creativity, there are times [...]

Batch Your Writing

There’s a fundamental truth at the core of all writing that I wish I’d discovered a long time ago. As I do it longer, I get deeper into the creative flow, and my output of quality writing increases. I never figured this out for a long time, and as a result, I’d end up doing [...]

I can't imagine why anyone would sign up on a network like this and contribute less than once a month.
About my Business:
I'm a business ghost writer and editor. I help small business owners and sales professionals create distinctive personal branding and credibility through authorship.

If you're struggling to market and sell your services, if you're doing a lot of cold calling, or if you are spending your time and energy staying busy, consider that your personal branding may be the place to look. The stronger your personal brand, the less you will have to market yourself.

Writing a book is a great way to brand yourself. People who read a book begin to see you in a different light. If a book is too large a project for you to take on right now, writing articles is another option.

My process is fairly straightforward. I start out by interviewing my clients about their vision for the future, and I direct them through a structured interview designed to help them decide if writing a book makes sense or not.

If the client and I both feel that we're a good fit, I work with them to map out the project top-down. If it's a book, we create a working title and a list of chapters. Once we are on the same page about this, we create a list of bullet points for each chapter to serve as a skeleton for the content. From here, the projects proceed different ways, depending on the needs and goals of the client. I use a similar approach for a series of articles.
About Me:
In mid-2007, I had what Michael Gerber (author of The E-Myth Revisited) describes as an "Entrepreneurial Seizure." I was working at a job that was somewhat like the movie Office Space, and my bosses called my cell phone 8 times during a 30-minute period (on my day off). There was a period of red-hot outrage, followed by a moment of peaceful stillness, somewhat like the eye of a hurricane. I knew in that moment that I was never going to be a slave again.

Several months later, I dubbed myself "The Introverted Entrepreneur." I then set off in search of a way to succeed in business without mucking through the icky waters of "selling."

I'm currently training with Landmark Education (a personal development training organization). My training with Landmark started in mid-2007, and marked the beginning of my entrepreneurial career. It also led to me developing a relationship with God and giving up drugs. Landmark's training is based on one key principle: your life is not determined by your past, but by the future you're living into.

I'm an investor and volunteer fund raiser with The Hunger Project, an international non-profit that's been around since 1977. We are committed to empowering men and women in developing countries to end their own hunger by building sustainable economies in an environmentally responsible way. Our strategy focuses on the empowerment of women, and our fund raising efforts focus on individual grassroots investors who are committed for the long term vision.

In Chinese astrology, I'm a Fire Snake.
My Ideal Customer is:
I only work with serious, committed clients. If you're sitting on the fence about whether writing a book is something you have time for or not, you probably shouldn't do it. A good client for me is someone who understands that personal branding is not optional, and who follows through on the things they start.

* A professional who wants to build a more credible brand name by authoring a book, but lacks the time to write it.

* A business owner who would like to create a blog, but won't have time to update it every week.

* A one-of-a-kind business looking for creative ways to market. Examples of such a business might include:
- a gourmet bakery that's also a photography studio
- a chiropractor who offers holistic health and wellness services
- a coffee shop/art gallery that hosts Meetup events
- a Realtor who's also a gardener and specializes in Feng Shui
- a jewelry store that also sells fine chocolates
- a Quickbooks specialist who offers full IT services for small businesses

Those are just a few.
My Ideal Referral Partner is:
* Another writer like myself

* A sales coach or career coach

Is Work the New Play?

Has anyone else noticed that in the world of entrepreneurship, it's all about working with the people you want to work with, and making your friendships profitable?

I almost hesitated to put this blog post up, for fear that I would come across as a Scrooge. That's not where I'm going. Life isn't about making money. But I've noticed, on several occasions now, that it becomes frustrating when I can only spend a limited amount of time with somebody before it's "time to get back to work."

I think… Continue

Old is the New 'New'

(This is a nod in Seth Godin's direction, in case you haven't heard of his book, "Small is the New 'Big'".)

Has anyone noticed a pattern, amid the mass proliferation of new technologies, platforms, strategies, and paradigms that have flooded the information stream following the advent of the post-information age and "web 2.0"? Personally, I've seen a return to the basics.

The most obvious example: "viral" marketing really boils down to word of mouth marketing. On the surface, it appears that t… Continue

Interactive Blog Posts

Now that I'm thoroughly through ranting about blog spam, I thought it would be beneficial to take a look at some of the unexplored potential that this blog platform has to offer. I would, of course, welcome anyone's thoughts on this, and I'll start off by mentioning a few ideas I have off the top of my head.

First, though, I want to mention that I've made it my personal policy not to post a new blog entry until I've commented on at least three other people's blog posts. I think if everyone did… Continue

Press Release Spam

Four people now have asked me the same question. "Why haven't you done a press release for your book?" My answer: press releases are for news, not for ads. This is a pet peeve of mine. Every time someone submits a thinly veiled solicitation disguised as news, it devalues the good press releases.

I already know what a lot of people would say in response to this comment - "well, everybody else is doing it!" This sort of peer pressure may be a golden asset to the tobacco companies, but it doesn't… Continue

Blog posts on InSide919

Is it just me, or does anyone else notice people posting blog entries that are basically just advertisements? I really wish people wouldn't do this.

Fortunately, there's still a lot of value content showing up in the blog stream, and I'd really like to keep it that way. The front page of InSide919, for me, has become somewhat like a "virtual town hall." It's an easy place to see what everybody's talking about. I like that I can see at a glance what activity has been taking place on the network… Continue
