President - Breakout Ventures Co-founder at The Center for Excellence

Profile Information

About my Business:
I have one compelling passion that drives me every moment of every day and it can be summed up in one word "GROWTH". I love to see growth in my family, my friends , my self , and yes , even in my flower and vegetable gardens.

I see everyone as a garden so I truly enjoy meeting new people and learning about their unique gifts, talents, skills, strengths, interests, values and passions (what I call their "WOW"). In the past year or two many folks have seen their career path disappear or their business shrink as customers disappeared. Lots of really great folks are in search of a new path or a more lucrative path

This is the reason I decided to launch a new company and named it "BREAK OUT VENTURES". After seeing too many highly talented, highly skilled and gifted folks (including myself at one point) struggling to find their way in a world that is operating under a brand new set of rules , shifting paradigms, and a brand new business and economic model that many of us are still trying to understand, I decided "there must be a better way".

We didn't have any training courses or classes in school teaching us how to adapt to this rapidly changing model.
The main problem I see as I attend seminars, workshops and training sessions is that most of what is being offered is conventional wisdom "old" solutions to "new" problems. BreakOut Ventures is looking to change that.
About Me:
After a 25 year successful career as an Engineering Manager in Corporate America , I was faced with a big decision when I was laid off in 1995. With 2 children in College and 2 in High School and loving the Raleigh North Carolina community, I decided to start my own business. With the help of a very supportive wife , a few close friends and a mentor , I successfully launched my own consulting business, assisting smaller companies with their operations start ups, expansions, facilities and real estate needs.

Having weathered many storms of starting up a new enterprise I completed a successful transition out of Corporate America and even significantly increased my earnings over my corporate salary. Over the past 15 years, I have learned many valuable lessons on “what it takes” to be a successful entrepreneur and more importantly several pitfalls to avoid. In that same 15 year period I had to reinvent my company, my business and yes even myself to keep my revenues, income streams and profits high enough to justify my investment. Back in the day we did not call it rebranding or reinventing ourselves, we called it adaptability, flexibility and staying focused on the customer, with an attitude of "whatever it takes". I now dedicate all of my time to helping others who are faced with a transition out of the Corporate world and those interested in exploring new areas of opportunity and sharing with them new paths and directions that can be meaningful to them.

On a personal note my wife Kath and I have enjoyed living in North Raleigh for 27 years.
We came to Raleigh from South carolina (Columbia, Myrtle Beach, and Spartanburg). Our 4 children Scott, Kevin, Angela and Joey were all raised here and they are all out on their own, so we now enjoy North Raleigh with our 4 pets Indica (black lab), Choco (hounddog?) and twin cats Maggie and Gabe. We enjoy organic gardening and spending time with our 9 family members and our one and only grandaughter Cadey Grace (Apex)
My Ideal Referral is:
Anyone looking for more out of life and willing to open their mind to new possibilities . This can be a professional in transition either unemployed or underemployed or someone sitting in a dead end corporate job . Additionally those folks seriously considering starting a business or in business with flat or declining revenues that realize they need a “spark” or a “new approach”.
My Ideal Referral Partner is:
A recruiter, HR professionals, talent scouts , or outplacement firm
A business coach, life coach, career coach or counselor
A support group or team that works with professionals in transition and struggling small business owners

Hello Dan, It was a pleasure meeting you this past Friday as well. And yes, I must agree, Pat always has EXCELLENT information to share. We are blessed that he shares his knowledge. Thank you for taking the time to read some of my blog posts. It's nice knowing when people are paying attention to your work. Alan Hoffler's class on eliminating the Um's and Uh's from your vocabulary as a business professional was a BLAST. It was fun sharing what I learned, and you're welcome for the video tips. I enjoyed reading your profile. What a cool way to view people that you meet as a garden. How sweet is that!!! I'd welcome the opportunity to meet. Just name the time and place. Until then, enjoy your weekend.
