Agree with Julie! This touches more families than we know. Seems if it isn't happening to us, we don't pay much attention. Trouble is -- it is happening to us. Heads out of the sand everyone and speak up! Great post Bev, reflecting your generous n...

I think women, men and children need to continue to speak up about this issue because it continues to happen on such a large scale and our laws don't do much to protect our children. Victims often feel shame instead of the abusers so courageous wo...

A North Carolina Tragedy Part II

I, like many others in North Carolina, am shocked, saddened and even outraged over the death of little Shaniya Davis. This is the five-year-old who was being used as a sex slave by her mother, 25-year-old Antoinette Davis. Shaniya's body was discovered Monday in a rural area---several days after her mother reported her missing from their mobile home.

Here's the timeline according to Fayetteville Police:

Davis called police at 6:53 a.m. one week ago today to report that her daughter was missing… Continue

Turning A North Carolina Tragedy into Publicity

I received a call today from a woman who was a victim of child abuse and neglect more than 40 years ago. She asked my advice on how she could gain some media exposure for her book from the tragedy involving little Shaniya Davis.

At first, I hesitated to consult with her because my immediate reaction was it would be in poor taste to try to elevate herself in the midst of this horrific story. But then I thought, why not? She has a story that she lived--one of sexual child abuse and neglect. Her m… Continue

Your Word is Your Reputation

I want to share a recent experience I had here on Inside919 because it raises a point about making connections and our reputations as business people.

I was interested in someone's services so I contacted them. The first time I got a voice mail. I tried to briefly explain what I needed and asked that they call me back at their earliest convenience so I could get the ball rolling. I never heard from them so I called back--at which time I did get the person--who said they were in a meeting but as… Continue

The First Annual All Women's Social Media Summit Showcases Quality Over Quantity

One of the things I've come to learn over the years is success isn't always defined by the number of people who show up for your Event. Having a standing room only crowd is what we, as event organizers hope for, but if that doesn't happen you can still claim victory if you have provided a quality program.

On Saturday, October 17 at the Capital City Club, a small, intimate audience was priviledged to receive valuable information from six of the finest women and four of the most terrific men in s… Continue

Setting Up a Facebook Fan Page

How many of you have a Facebook Fan Page? Do you know what the purpose of having one is? Most people don't or if they have one, they don't use it effectively or correctly.

My good friend and social media expert Kim Vallee offers some wonderful tips on how to get the most out of your facebook fan page. She says:

Look at your fan page as a destination for your fans to connect with your brand and amongst themselves. If you accept the fact that the content of your fan page does not have to be just… Continue
