Hello,

I'm new to this group & have lots of questions. I have many non-acute food sensitivities & I've been told to cut a lot of stuff out. But it's an overwhelming amount, leaving me wondering what in the world I CAN have. The closest thing I have found to what I should be doing is the Paleo "Caveman" Diet, but even that's questionable. Is anyone familiar with this plan?

Thanks,
Heather

Hey Tish,
I am a member of a CSA through Hilltop Farm in Willow Springs, They have drop off sites in Cary and Raleigh, or you can pick up at the farm. This year is winding down, but you may consider joining them or another CSA next year.

There is a great resource listing of local produce here. I also visit area farmer's markets and especially like the Holly Springs and Durham markets. They are seasonal too and things are winding down soon.

Tish,

Papa Spuds will deliver organic produce right to your door.
My niece has used the service and says it is great. www.papaspuds.com

You might also try the Western Wake Farmers Market.

Hello, I have an 8 year old daughter who suffers from hypertension for which Drs. have found no causation. I also have been suffering from severe hormonal imbalance and recently started an all natural program in an effort to regain my life back from the horrible symptoms of fatigue, depression, weight gain and more. I have done so much research and even recently wrote an article regarding organic vs. non-organic. I believe that it my just be the chemicals, hormones, steroids, etc. that caused my imbalance, as well as, my daughter's hypertension. Since December of 2008 I have made an effort to include organic produce, yogurt, milk, and grains in our diet. I have made an effort to make sure our meats and cheeses are all natural and do not contain steroids, rBST and antibiotics. I have found it difficult to find locally grown organic produce. If anyone can help suggest some local growers who grow organic I would appreciate it, as I would love to support local growers rather than big labels. As for now, I am on a quest to improve my families health and get my daughter off her daily hypertension meds and cure her of this disease, naturally and organically.

Water, Water, Water would be part of the problem, but what I suggest is a biodegradable concentrated surfactant that you put in the ground before you even start thinking of planting any vegetable garden. This way the worms which are so important for you soil will areate the soil. And when the summer months arrive and hardly any rain. you will still have great crops.

My plants must be unhappy. I have cabbage plants that are more hole than leaf. Maybe I should sing to them. Nah, that would kill them outright.

I agree with Larry about the need for water in the garden. Rain barrels and other devices for capturing and reclaiming water, both inside and out, are great! As for insects, I find if my plants are happy, they attract fewer pests.

I try to grow my own vegetables organically. After years of failure I have finally learned a secret. water, water, water. I am so concerned about wasting water that I have always used too little. This year I collected rain water and the water that comes out of the air conditioner. Peppers that I water constantly are producing like crazy. Peppers that are further away from the "free" water are producing very little.

I do cheat on being 100% organic and chemical free, so I am always looking for ways to get away from chemicals. I hate seeing the bugs get more than their fair share. Any info is definitely welcome by me.

Melissa, I am also going to get my garden together for fall with cool season crops. I went to Ginger Zucchino's class about how to garden year round down here so I am excited to try her tips. Have you tried Trader Joes for organic produce? They usually carry a decent selection year round.

With summer cooling down into fall, I am looking for options to buy organic produce. Thanks for the suggestions about the local Kroger and Earthfare. Any other ideas? I am planting a few fall veggies at home along with being a member of a CSA (co-op).
