What it is...

Moving someplace new can be exciting as well as intimidating. When I moved here two years ago, I was lucky enough to have friends waiting for me. Well, I'd to create a spot to give that back to other newbies settling down here in the Triangle! Please join if you are new here (less than a year), or a veteran resident who wants to help newbies find their way around and get them acclimated to our wonderful region! ***Please, no barfing of sales pitches or blatant self-promotion (save it for your profile page). If you join, contribute something resourceful with no strings attached.***

Great idea, Michelle. I moved here in June from California. Before I moved I started following some locals on Twitter and chatting with them a bit. Because of those relationships, I've met a lot of folks here in Raleigh, found my apartment and my hair stylist, and I'm sure lots more. So that's my recommendation for new folks -- get on Twitter. Follow locals, those in your industry or profession and those with the same interests. Listen and get used to how it works and then join in some conversations, answer questions, share good blog links. It's a great learning and relationship-building tool.

Hi and thanks so much for starting this group! I haven't moved to the area yet, but will be arriving by October 1st. I don't know ANYONE and will need referrals for EVERYTHING - doctors, dentist, auto mechanic, veterinarian, hair stylist - a good one, please!, and anything else I'm forgetting. I don't know my way around - have been to the area a couple times looking for a place to live, and the area is very confusing to me. Looks like a GPS is a must-have before I get there! At home here in Florida, I attend a lot of networking functions and after-hours networking socials, I co-direct a women's networking group, and am part of a mastermind group, so I'll be looking to get connected with networking groups in the area. From what I can tell, the area has quite a few networking groups, not as many as here, but I don't know where they are or how far I would have to travel to get to them. I'm looking forward to meeting other "newbies" as well as long-timers and natives. Has anyone else on here relocated from the Tampa Bay area lately?

LOVE the idea. Since I've only been in town for a couple of weeks, I'm by no means a vet, but I now know what it's like to find my way around (and find some awesome people in the meantime). I'm in.
