As a scientist, I've always been interested in the search process for content as well as for "knowledge" (which I think many agree is a different item). I just joined this group today and I'm interested in hearing of any new search engine algorithms that someone in this group may be developing. What problem do you think is the most difficult one to solve when designing new search engine applications?

Anyone have thoughts on the downturn in the advertising world and its impact on SEM? The DOOM & GLOOM is in no short supply. What are you hearing from clients in the field?

Hey Dan, could you start a discussion on your question below? That is a great topic (that I'd love to follow) and the Comment Wall will capture noise and dilute it. Keep in mind as the Admin of this Group you can alert members of this via the 'Mail link to your right' we of course never want to turn a group into a spam platform - but you are an expert in this field and have your "ears to the tracks" as much as anyone I know.

All local SEMs...

Thoughts on the new local search changes that Google rolled out?

You need a mix of both. Long-tail won't cost much, but can drive significant revenue.

What is your opinion on long tail keywords vs. keywords or short tail

Thoughts on the Google/Yahoo! "deal"?

As a Google and Yahoo! advertiser....i want to know what ads i am running through Google, will appear on Yahoo! (even though I don't run much non-search ads).

Hey Dan, Can you increase the number of Discussion items that appear, I don't want to bury items that are there. Simply click on 'Edit Group' and then look for the 'Edit' box above the Discussions area. Maybe set to 5 or so? Thanks!

I have used pay-per-call as well. Google is providing this service as well and it works pretty well. We are running it for some of our larger clients with pretty decent success.
