The 919 Local Business Network

I had a wonderful skype call with India on Tuesday. I would love to start doing video group sessions and would love to hear about anyone's experience with the video skype capabilities for overseas calls. I know that skype can be unpredictable and when multiple connections are involved there are mroe crashes.

Let me know your experiences if you have them!

I would routinely talk with a friend who was in Japan for a year and didn't have any problems.
That's great to hear. I speak to my brother in Uganda on Skype but we having tried video Skype.
Hi Lauren,

From my experiences with video conferencing, Skype works well with point to point (most of the time), but as you stated, get's bogged down with multi-point. I would highly recommend - if you want this to be a decent part of your business, getting a real video conferencing solution on your network. I can demo our set up in our office free of charge to you if you're interested!

Thanks!
Rebecca
My daughter and I used Skype for all of our calls while she was in Italy for six months and it worked great. Now I use it for business meetings when it isn't convenient to have an actual sit down meeting.
Hi Lauren!

Agreed with Rebecca. In trying to do multiple video conferences via Skype, it's very dependent on each individual's technology. If they have older operating systems, they can be prone to crashing frequently during the call.

I haven't tried it myself, but a friend told me about freeconferencecall.com. They have a screen sharing service. Of course, there's also paid services like Go to meeting and Webex.

I'm sure you'll find something you can use among the many options out there.
Esha,

I've used freeconferencecall.com but not with the screen sharing. I'll have to give that a call. Thanx. I've had trouble with Skype in certain countries...based on their technology.

Hope to see you soon!

Lauren
I use and really like ooVoo and have had 6 people on at the same time (can be interesting) but have not done this out of the States.

It's Free so worth a test.
Pat,

I love the name (grin) and will give ooVoo a try! I can be the tester for some other countries and see if it works! I'll let you know what I find out.

Thanx for the suggestion!

Lauren
Hi Lauren!

I am not sure how large your video sessions are but AnyMeeting.com has video conferencing capabilities for up to 6 individuals. I have not used it for video so I cannot give my feedback. I just noticed that the feature is available, if needed.

If you do happen to try it out, please let us know what you think!

Much Success!
Anjanette
Hi Lauren--although this post is pretty old, I still wanted to respond since I am an avid SKYPE user. I talk with people all over the world. Skype has gotten better, though the limiting factors can be the volume of traffic (time of day) and quality of camera you or the other person has. No the technology is not totally dependable, and I will sometimes have to recall the person a couple times. But it is getting better. I have not signed up for the group Skype, and would very much like to hear other folks' experiences with it. Let me know if you try it.
Thanx Jennifer. I'll keep you posted as I try Skype with groups overseas for video chats.

I talk to my friend in Japan a lot with it but with coaching calles I can pick up drops in the ip packets on this stuff and will not use it. I had a client from France and we just used the many phone lines for I need as much audio information when listening to a client as I can get.
